CYCLE
‘a lap of the gods’
TOUR THE BEST OF THE PELOPONNESE
CYCLE ‘A LAP OF THE GODS’
DETAILS
Each Lap of the Gods runs for 5 days, from Monday morning until Friday evening. We start and finish at our villa in Epidavros - where you will stay the night before (Sunday) and stay on the final night (Friday) Thus, this is a six-day holiday. You can add extra days at the end should you wish.
We average 80km a day but there is good climbing every day - so this distance/climbing works for most levels. If you wish to do more we can provide GPX for additional distance each day - still ending at the same hotel.
We will be passing locations of ancient legends, which we can visit if the group wish before our overnight stays in relaxed seafront towns. Chris will be the rie guide and be presenting the ‘Lap of the Gods’ finishers medals and certificates
This tour can also be booked by clubs, private groups and charity fundraising challenges.

ITINERARY
-
DAY 1: EPIDAVROS TO POROS ISLAND
83km.
Up out of Epidavros and a beautiful ride along 40 kilometres of coastal road, before a ride over to the Methana volcano for our lunch stop. Up and over the volcano and back down the coast and to the ferry onto Poros Island - a loop of the island and its time for a beer.
-
DAY 2: POROS TO SPETSES ISLAND
85 km
Leave Poros on the morning 5-minute ferry ride, onto a gentle climb and descent down and pass the ferry to Hydra, for lunch in beautiful Ermioni. After, its back along the coast road, a short ferry over to Spetses and a beautiful lap of the island, ith a finish in front of the famous Poseidonion hotel.
-
DAY 3: SPETSES ISLAND TO NAFPLIO
82km
First thing, it’s on the ferry back to the mainland and an early morning coffee in the upmarket resort of Porto Helli. We then climb up to 600m and down again to the coast for lunch. The afternoon sees us along the coast to Nafplio - the first capital of Greece and a night in what is also known as the romantic capital of Greece.
-
DAY 4: NAFPLIO TO TRIPOLI
73km
We leave Nafplio, along the coast, on the ‘road of the heart’, popular with young lovers and said to extend the life of any rider with heart issues! This is our shortest day as after another beachside lunch we then climb up through the forests of the Taygetus Mountains and overnight in Tripoli.
-
DAY 5: TRIPOLI TO EPIDAVROS
106km
Our longest day but it starts with a 600m descent towards Argos and the ancient remains of Mycenae. After a tour it’s onto one of the Peloponnese’s leading vineyards for a quick (optional!) wine tasting We leave Mycenae, heading inland, via the quiet old high road to Epidavros for 40km of countryside roads to, what is for many, the historical highlight of the week, the 20,000 seat, ancient amphitheatre of Epidaurus.
Before we descend to the end of the tour in harbourside Epidavros, we stop off for a final drink at the restaurant on the hilltop and watch the sunset over the Saronic coastline and the lights start to shine bright in Athens, only 50km away across the gulf.
