BREAKAWAY GREECE

getting here and away

Getting here and around

There are four ways of getting here and away.

Option 1. Hire a car

We are just a 90-minute drive from Athens and under two hours from Athens airport.

Guests can rent cars from Athens airport (Avance is generally the cheapest and most convenient).

During a mixed week (cyclists & non-cyclists) ideally, a non-cyclist is able to drive the car to the three destinations that everyone can meet at during the week. If bringing your own bike in soft bag, this can also fit into the car.

There is storage possible at the airport if required.

This option obviously gives each person the most flexibility during their stay.

Directions are below.

Option 2 - Arranged Transfer

We can arrange a transfer for groups and carry all people and bikes to/from the airport to Epidavros. Works best when everyone arrives and leaves together.

A quote for this can be provided on request. Depends on number of guests and bikes.

Option 3 - Your own train/transfer

This is the easiest / cheapest route without hiring a car.

(if any doubts about any of this at the time - please just ask another passenger or a train guard - everyone is friendly and helpful)

1 Arrive at Athens Airport and follow signs to the airport train station - this is about 100m across a covered walkway.

2 Buy a ticket for N. Korinthos from the ticket office.

3 Go through the barriers and down to the train track.

4 Take the suburban train (and not the metro train) (both tracks are sign-posted)

5 Trains generally leave at .07 minutes past each hour.

6 At the 10th stop (31 minutes) Kato Acharnai - leave the train - stay on the same platform but wait on the adjacent track for the next train coming in the opposite direction. (about 4-5 minutes)

7 Board this train to Korinthos. N

8 After 9 stops and 53 minutes leave the train at Korinthos N.

9 Outside the station will be numerous taxis - they are all metered so you can’t get ripped off. The cost to Palaia Epidavros is about 70 euros (depending on traffic) and will take about 50 minutes. Ask to go to Palaia Epidavros and then when closer you can tell them Villa Rosa, Apollon Hotel or Hotel Yialsai - depending on which you are staying at. (local directions below).

Option 4 - Bus

This is the cheapest but probably most inconvenient way to travel here.

There is a twice-daily coach from the central Athens bus station, to and from Epidavros.

Latest schedule and information available on request.

Please call or whatsapp Chris on 0044 7932 746591 if you have any problems finding us or if you are running late.

Driving here and away

From the airport, it is a one-hour drive along the motorway to Corinth. There are three toll booths to pass through - each is around 2 euro or less. When you reach Corinth, if you have time it is worth going 2 minutes off route to stand on the old bridge that crosses the famous canal. Once off the motorway, head here.

If you would like a food/rest stop on the way, a few miles further on from the Corinth Canal are some tavernas right on the beach.

It is then a further 40-minute drive to Epidavros from there.

Hotel/villa

We have three accommodation centres, Villa Rosa, Hotel Yialsai (200m to the side of Villa Rosa) and Apollen Hotel (on the beach in front of Hotel Yialasi - so all within 5 minutes walk of each other)

Villa Rosa

If you are staying at the villa This is a link to Google maps (to the villa next door). Sometimes Google maps takes drivers past our road and up the next one so look out for the sign for Angelika Villas below.

Drive to Palaia Epidavros and follow the signs to the road that leads to Gialasi/Yialasi.

200 metres after you pass ‘Hotel Yialasi’ & ‘Camping Bekas’ turn right and go up the hill by the sign for ‘Angelica Villas’.

After 200m up the hill and past the first turning on your right, you will see the sign for ‘Villa Rosa’ to your right. It is the second villa along.

There is room for 2 car parking spaces on the driveway.

The best guidebook

This is the best guidebook for Epidavros and the whole Peloponnese. We have one at the Villa but if you want to read up before you come – this is the book to get. On Amazon
